Below is an excerpt from the TVHS yearbook
Under the leadership of Coach Bob Von Kaenel, the 1984-1985 Varsity Basketball team finished with a 10-12 season record and a 6-8 conference record. Led by Co-Captains John Russ and Wade Renner, the Trojans pulled together to become a fine team. It was a young team consisting of only one senior John Ross, so next year's season looks to be very successful. In the sectional opener, T.V defeated Ridgewood by a score of 55-42. A close, breath-holding game with Claymont, 63-59, ended sectionals and the season and the season for the Trojans. Awards at the Annual Winter Sports Banquet showed the strength and unity of the team. Larry Horstman was named Best Offensive Player while Mike Moore was voted Best Defensive Player. John Harris and Ken Maurer received Most Rebounds, Wade Renner had the Best Free Throw Percentage, and Tory Harvey was named the Most Improved Player. John Russ received the Coaches award while Dereck Vaughan received the 9th Grade Achievement Award. Also, Wade Renner, Second Team Senate League; Troy Harvey and Larry Horstman. Honorable Mention Senate League.
