Below is an excerpt from the TVHS yearbook
There is no question as to the highlight of this year's basketball team coached by Bob Von Kaenel. For the first time in the school's AA history, the Trojans won the sectional when they defeated Coshocton 49-48. Then they fell just short of a shot at the District title when River Local got the best of them 48-50.
The Trojans finished 14-8 overall and 9-5 in the Senate League. We lost a chance to tie for the title when Carrollton defeated us 55-57 February 14th on our home court in front of a sell-out crowd. Coach Von Kaenel praised his team. "We had a lot of experience in five returning letterman. We also played a lot better together and hustled more. I was really pleased with our Senate League wins," he said.
Athletic Director Rob Sattler pointed out another highlight. "We had two hard fought wins over Senate arch rival East Canton. Those victories served as a catalyst for our strong play the remainder of the season," he commented.
Wade Renner (sr.) earned several honors: First Team All-Senate, Most Valuable Senate League, District 5 Player of the Year, Eastern District Player of the Year, First Team All-Ohio, and Honorable Mention All-American in USA TODAY. He also participated in the East-West game and the Ohio Nort-South game. Troy Harvey (jr.) received Second Team All-Senate, Second Team District 5, Eastern District Honorable Mention, and also played in the East-West game. Mike Moore (jr.), was given Honorable Mention All-Senate and District 5 Honorable Mention. Larry Horstman (jr.) earned Honorable Mention All-Senate.
