PAC-7 proved to be an exciting move as the Trojans finished 14-8 overall and took second place in the league with a superb record of 9-3. The team also captured its third consecutive sectional championship as it downed Indian Valley 61-48. "Our enthusiasm and 100% effort each night in practice were important to our team and also helped us win 14 games," commented Coach Bob Von Kaenel.
"We had a good season despite having a lot of inexperienced players at the varsity level. We exceeded what everyone thought our season would be and we always played with a lot of pride and intensity eery time we stepped onto the floor," stated varsity starter Ryan Kramer.
"It was much more challenging this year from a coach's point of view. We were much smaller than our opponents, but we still won games because of hard work and a great team attitude. Overall, I was very pleased with what we accomplished this season as a team," added Von Kaenel.
Steve Franks distinguished himself with a basketful of awards by playing an outstanding season. Awards include First Team PAC-7; First Team AP Eastern District; First Team District 5; Second Team All-Ohio AP and UPI; OHSBCA Player of the Year; East-West District 5 All Star; OHSAA North-South All Star; Most Career Points-1170; Most Career Assists-353; Most Steals in a game-8; Most Assists; Best Offensive Player.
Other awards went to Mike Adams (sr.), PAC-7 Honorable Mention, Most Steals in a Game-8, Co-Best Definsive Player; Casey Shaeffer (sr.), District 5 HM, Most Rebounds; Ryan Kramer (jr.), First Team PAC-7, Co-Best Defensive Player; Scott Clugston (sr.), Coaches' Award; Scot Selinsky (jr.), Most Improved; Bob Von Kaenel, District 5 Director.
When the Senate League disbanded in '89, four ex-Senate schools with similar enrollment including Tusky, Sandy, East Canton, and Tuslaw joined Fairless Manchester, and Coventry to form the PAC-7 League (Principals' Athletic Conference).
"The Trojans performed well in this new league and were very competitive. In all sports we finished no lower than third. WE won championships in volleyball, girls' basketball, boys' and girls' track, and were runner-up in cross country, golf, wrestling and boys' basketball," stated Athletic Director Bob Von Kaenel.
"I'm sure our athletes missed competing against ex-Senate League teams like Dover, Claymont, Carrollton, and Minerva, but the PAC-7 has been well-received and we were proud to be a part of this new conference," he added.
"Competing in the new league was exciting. We worked hard each night at basketball practice and that earned us second in the league. We also won 14 games which is an accomplishment, too," said senior Mike Adams.
Where a school places in the league is important for the All-Sports trophy which is given to the school that places highest in all the sports combined. Heading into spring sports, T.V. was leading the PAC-7 with 63 points.
Trophy points range from 1-10 with the placing first in a given sport receiving 10, second place 8, third 6, fourth 5, etc. Last place receives 2 points. If a tie results for first place, each of teams finishing first receives 9 points, second 6, and so on down the line.
Tusky brought home the All-Sports Trophy in '88 and chances looked good again for '90 as of this writing.
