Cagers meet goal of .500

"Lets's get better every day," was new Head Coach Ted Majestic's coaching strategy for the team. After coaching reserves and assisting varsity for four years, Coach Majestic stepped up to the challenge of heading the varsity. In his first year he rallied the Cagers to finish the season at 12-11 and fifth in the the PAC. It has been four yearssince Tusky Valley had finished with a winning season.

"Having only won eleven games during the last two seasons combined, my goal was to be .500. At one point early in the year, we were 1-3. After that point we were 11-8. The team improved every game. 'Getting better every day' was my suggestion to the team from day one. When tournament time came, the team just decided we were a good team, and we were going to play like it," said Coach Majestic.

"Coach treated every game as if it was the most impotant game of the season. He made us earn every gain we got. He turned into our most effective talent so that we could be effective," commented junior Dan Gehrig.
Post season awards went to- Jason Eckinger,(sr.), MVP and Best Offensive Player; Alex Fait, (sr.), Most Improved; J.P. Ragon, (sr.), Best Defensive Playe; Craig Lieser, (sr.), and Dan Lawver, (sr.), Co-Coach's Award.

Bull's Buzzer Shot

Wendell Merrill, commonly known as Bull, sank a near half court three pointer at the buzzer of Malvern tournament game. The entire game was a see-saw battle with the Trojans on top at the finish. Even though the Trojan cagers had a comfortable five point lead on Malvern, Merrill's last second three pointer spurred the crowd into a complete roar of victory, a victory which entered the men into Sectional finals where they fell to Garaway 58-64.

"Beating Malvern in tournaments was a great victory! We played our hardest and ended the game with Bull's memorable shot. The students' reaction was to storm the court. That hasn't happened in a long time," said Alex Fait.

As a new coach, Ted Majestic took his lead role by approaching the team with positive ideas for coaching.

"Coach Majestic has a great understanding for the game of basketball. His greatest attribute, though, is that he pushed us to believe in oursleves and to succeed," commented Ben Wright.

"Coach Majestic is well-organized and had us thoroughly prepared for every opponent. Plus, he made basketball fun and restored confidence in us. He knows how to be one of the 'guys'," said Zach Salapack.

"I think he's a great coach who relates to kids well and who knows the game well," commented Lyle Fait.

Jock Talk

What made the '94-'95 season different from previous seasons?

Zach Salapack-
"Basketball was fun again, and confidence and support were restored."
Craig Lieser- "I couldn't jump because my ankles wouldn't cooperate. I was looking forward to dunking the basketball in front of our home crowd, but then I had my accident. I still got to play and that's what counts."
J.P. Ragon- "The fact that we met our team goal of having a winning record was different. However, we could have made it farther into the tournament, but overall the season was very successful."
Dan Lawver- "The attitude of our team was a major improvement. You could see it in our faces right in and right out. We knew we had a chance to win every game."
Coach Ted Majestic- "I fell that the team practiced harder than the previous seasons. They really wanted to improve. No one seemed to be satisfied with being a losing team again. They made a commitment and then went out to prove it. I am glad that, in my first years as coach, I was given the opportunity to coach these fine individuals."
Lyle Fait- "The fact that this year I was playing with not only guys my age. but guys older than I, was different."
Jason Eckinger- "We had better team unity. The whole team did things together and everyone got along."
Adam Bee-"We had a successful season and were confident instead of afraid."
David Lautenschleger "We won more games, plain and simple. The unity of the team was more obvious than previous years, and it showed because of our success."
