A superb contribution of talent and leadership from the seniors helped
the team achieve a well-deserved 8-2 record, the best mark since '77

Quality leadership and hard work proved to be the keys as the Trojans ended with a 8-2 record overall and 5-1 in the PAC-7, earning them a second place finish. They posted the best record since 1977 when the Trojans went 8-1-1.

"This was one of the hardest working teams I've ever coached. We started very slowly during the pre-season by losing two out of three scrimmages, but we improved rapidly peaking midway through the season. This team always came back after a defeat with a strong performance which is a sign of a great team!" commented Coach Dave Tucci.

"Our seniors also provided tremendous leadership. They had a positive influence on our younger players. When things were not going well, they seemed to always rally the troops," Tucci added.

"To go 8-2 and finish second in the league was a major accomplishment. We had a great nucleus of 13 seniors and everyone on the team contributed, whether in games or in practice. Also, to have the area's best defense was a great accomplishment. To end up only 10 points away from a perfect 10-0 was hard to swallow, but it was great to be on this team," concluded Co-captain Ryan Kramer.

Post-season awards went to Scot Selinsky (sr.), Best Offensive Back: Erich Handrich (sr.), Best Defensive Back: Eric Tomblin (sr.), Best Defensive Lineman: Mike Dilley (sr.), Best Defensive Lineman: Ryan Kramer (sr.), Best Receiver: Ricky Brooks (sr.), Most Improved: Willy Hamilton (sr.), Coaches' Award.

With the top-rated defense in the PAC-7, the gridders held their opponents
to 57 points which helped Mike Dilley achieve All-Ohio recognition

"Our strengths were many in number. Our seniors provided quality leadership throughout the season and finished one of the PAC-7's best. Our number one strength was our defense. Giving up only 57 points for the year was the fourth best in T.V. history," stated Coach David Tucci.

The team finished with an 8-2 overall record, the best since 1977. They ranked second behind Manchester in the PAC-7 and 10th in Region 13. They also had the fourth best defense in Tuscarawas Valley history.

"Going into the season, I didn't expect us to have a good offensive line. We got some new men out which helped us fill the open position in the offensive line. They really worked, as did the rest of the team, to put together an 8-2 record. We had all the positions on the defense filled except for the defensive line. Jeff Ladrach, Scott Johnson, Kris Engstrom, Matt Johnston, Mike Dilley, and I took on the responsibility along with a great secondary and two excellent linebackers to hold our opponents to 57 points," commented Co-captain Willie Hamilton.

Senior Mike Dilley ended the season by being selected First Team All-Ohio on the defensive squad. Mike's picture was added to the Wall of Fame in the lower hallway.

"I think we had a very successful year. Our 8-2 record was one of the best this school ever had. One of the highlights was defeating rival Sandy Valley 31-0. Beating Tuslaw 14-0 on the muddiest field we had ever played was a real morale booster. It was exciting also," commented Mike Dilley.
