With only two returning starters and ten returning lettermen, the expectations for Trojan football were low, but hard work in the off-season opened possibilities. The team finished 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the league earning them a second place finish behind PAC-7 powerhouse Manchester.

"I think our season went well considering our grade (seniors) had never won a game in our junior high and freshman years. Our coaches put forth a lot of time and effort preparing us for each week's game. It all paid off with our winning seven games, and other than our close loss to Fairless, I was impressed by the way everything turned out," commented Tri-Captain Scott Johnson, se noir.

Fifth year Head Coach Dave Tucci added, "Going 7-3 and winning the last four games had to be the highlight of the season. Also, we were 5-0 at home."

"We were very pleased with the progress the eleven seniors made throughout their high school career. People forgot that these seniors went 0-6 as freshmen. Their improvement has to be the most satisfying aspect of this successful season," Tucci ended.

Post-season awards went to Bob Armstrong (sr.), Best Offensive Lineman; Tom Geissinger (sr.), Most Improved; Scott Johnson (sr.), Best Defensive Back; Matt Johnston (sr.), Best Defensive Lineman; Jeff Ladrach (sr.), Best Offensive Back, Most Valuable Player; Sean Varansky (sr.), Coaches' Award.

Major Key to a Successful Season

With the hot, summer months in full stride, it was again time to dig out the running shoes. It was time for summer football conditioning which consisted of running and lifting weights three nights a week.

"We had such a great turnout for the program. This was where great strides and improvement were made. It was an optional program, but the dedication to football by our athletes was impressive," said Coach Dave Tucci.

This dedication and hard work in the off-season guided the Trojans to a 7-3 overall season ledger.

Jeff Ladrach, who rushed for 1,348 yards and scored 146 points, broke the old school records set by Joe Duebner in 1965.

Jeff stated, "I think we had a very successful season. I thought we played extremely well as a team when the game was on the line. Several sophomores matured and helped us at the end of the season. I thought the summer and off-season workouts helped prepare us physically for the season. A lot of time was spent and I feel it all paid off throughout the year."

"I thought the summer conditioning program played a major key in the success of the season. A lot of players came each night and that is where we became stronger and faster. Without the program, the season might not have been the same,' added tri-captain Matt Johnston.
