Season Review
*** Information for the 1972 season comes from the TVHS yearbook and newspaper archives

The 1972 girls' basketball team continued the tradition of Tusky Valley girls' basketball as they captured the Trojanettes third consecutive Tri-County Conference championship.

The Trojanettes entered the '72 season with most of the players from the undefeated 1971 team returning. However, there was one major change as the Trojanettes were no longer be coached by Miss Paula Martin who had resigned following the '71 season to attend graduate school. Taking over the coaching duties was health and physical education teacher Fran Flinn.

The team rolled through January as they went 4-0 during the month with victories over Tuslaw, Fairless, Conotton Valley and Malvern. On February 1, 1972 the Trojanettes defeated Hiland 43-36 behind 16 points from Danita Harvey to extend the program's winning streak to 28 games dating back to the 1969 season.

The streak would come to an end in the Trojanettes next contest as they fell to Newcomerstown 28-21 for their first loss in nearly three calendar years. Ironically, Newcomerstown had been the last team to defeat Tusky Valley prior to the Trojanette's winning streak. The 28 game winning streak remains the longest winning streak of any sport in Tusky Valley sports history.

Following the loss to Newcomerstown the Trojanettes would bounce back to defeat Strasburg 38-26 behind 13 points & 14 rebounds from Paula Levengood. Tusky Valley would extend their winning streak to three games as they added victories over Garaway and Conotton Valley.

The Trojanettes would drop a second contest to Fairless on March 1st and stood at 8-2 on the season with two critical contests remaining. The final two games would make or break the season.

On March 4th Tusky Valley faced a tough Dover squad that entered the contest with a 10-1 record. The Trojanettes used stifling defense to limit the Tornadoes to just 14 points as the Trojans improved to 9-2 with a 27-14 victory over Dover.

After the Dover victory the Trojanettes would get a rematch with Newcomerstown in a "playoff" game. The Trojanettes not only gained a measure of revenge but they also captured their third consecutive Tri-County Conference title as they demolished Newcomerstown 33-13 behind 16 points & 9 rebounds from Danita Harvey. Allyson Coates also added 9 rebounds for the Trojanettes.
