Below is an excerpt from the yearbook
The Lady Trojans evened out this winter with an 11-11 record. Mimi Merrill and Mindi Lieser provided solid support as senior leaders. "I think that even though we didn't have a lot of seniors, they picked up the team and carried us through the season," said sophomore Sarah Lundenburger.
Throughout the year the lady cagers played soundly. The team had solid wins against tough teams such as Tuslaw and Fairless. Unfortunately, the girls were also handed some disappointing losses from teams like Indian Valley and Coventry.
"The most important game of the year was probably the Indian Valley tournament game," said Shonna Holdsworth. "It was very distressful because they had beaten us twice previously in the season." During the season the team stayed together on and off the court. The team got along very well, and everyone could rely on the other players. The team enjoyed spending time with each other outside of practices and games.
"When the team went out to eat there was always a lot of laughing, practical jokes, and goofing off," said junior powerhouse Shelly Roden. Senior leadership and team chemistry are two characteristics that add personality pizazz to a team. The girls had a roller coaster season with highs and lows, and they continued the Tusky Valley legacy of a good girls' basketball team.
Post-season awards went to Mimi Merrill, (sr.), MVP, Best Offense and Best Field Goal Percent; Mindi Lieser, (sr.), Best Defense; Gina Soehnlen, (soph.), Most Improved; Kristine Himes, (soph.), Best Free-Throw percent.
