Below is an excerpt from the yearbook:
Neither fierce competition nor brutal weather conditions could halt the booters from finishing a remarkable third in the Independent II League.
"The most memorable game was Northwest. We lost, but weren't disappointed because we lost only two goals to a state ranked team. Domination of the goal box with 30 saves and two stopped breakaways almost rallied us to a win," said junior Chris Crews.
"Throughout the season, unseasonable weather conditions made it difficult to play soccer. Sometimes the cold air with the freezing rain pouring down made it feel as if I were dribbling a rock instead of a soccer ball," stated sophomore Mike Swinford.
One of the goals set by Coach Terry Nill was to finish the season a winning one. Even though, the team fell short by one game, they did not allow it to discourage them and lose sight of their second goal, defeating Dover in the first round of tournaments. "I was really proud of the team for coming through when we needed the extra effort the most to pull through and defeat Dover 4-2," said Nill.
Post Season awards went to junior David Holmes, Best Offensive Player and First Team Independent III; junior Chris Crews, Best Defensive Player and Second Team Independent III; senior Todd Raines, Coach's Award; junior Tim Michaels and junior Kelly Rector, Co-Most Improved awards.
Jock Talk
If only one word could be used to describe the season what would it be and why?
Jed Emley - "Outstanding! We played many strong teams during the season, and we played very competitively against them. We also gained a lot of experience," replied senior Jed Emley.
Kelly Rector- "Exciting. Since our team was neither the best nor the worst, each game we played was always worth more than the previous one. Unfortunately, toward the end of the season, we slipped and missed having a winning season by one game."
Dave Holmes- "Disappointing. We had a very talented team, and I felt we could and should have had a winning season and made it further in tournaments. We had several games we tied that should have been wins. If we had won those ties, we might not have had such a tough tournament schedule and may have made it further."
