Below is an excerpt from the yearbook:
The booters had one of the best seasons in school history since they were the first team to boast a winning season, posting a mark 8-7-3.
The men had two huge victories which catapulted them into tournaments. Those wins were against Coventry, whom the Trojans hosted and defeated 7-4, and an away win at New Philadelphia where Ben Emley made the only two goals at 2-0. "My most memorable game was against New Philadelphia. I scored two goals and put my Phila friends to shame. Not really, because I laughed with them later about it," joked Ben.
The team also showed dedication through the season after the death of teammate Seth Neighbor with the cry 'Win this one for Seth' by Andrew Wasem. They did exactly that.
The booters beat West Holmes in the first round in shootout 5-3. The team scored 4 out of 5 penalty shots while Jon Wonsettler was between the pipes. "There was so much pressure on my shoulders. I knew if I choked, I would have felt sad," said Jon.
The Trojans won another game in overtime against W. Muskingum, 3-2. With the sectional championship in hand, the soccer team took a district semi-final defeat from Zanesville 5-2.
Post-season awards went to Jon Croston,(soph.), Leading Scorer; Andrew Wasem,(jr.), Best Defense; Ryan Hardy(sr.), Most Improved; Brendan Crews,(jr.), MVP; Ben Emley(sr.), Coach's Award.
Jock Talk
How did the competition in the regular season differ from tournaments?
Ryan Hardy- "We seemed to play harder and with more intent to win. Stakes are higher in tournaments, so we set our goals higher."
Chris Walker- "Competition in tournaments was a lot tougher. The teams we played were bigger and played rougher."
