This soccer season saw a collection of young, anxious potential join a scrambled few upperclassmen and one German exchange student to form the varsity soccer team. From the outside, it seemed to be an awkward situation with many ups and owns. However, there was plenty to be positive about. Sixteen of the season's roster of nineteen can return for 1999. The program has an extremely bright future because of a talented, upcoming freshmen class. The veterans of the field have passed on everything needed to mold a great soccer team.

A year of growth won't produce astounding statistics; however, future, classes of potential three and four year lettermen should. Skill level and organization improved immeasurably from day one to the middle of October. The schedule housed some very tough competition, and the team played each game with as much intensity as could be harbored. The Trojan booters finished up the season 4-11-1.

Each win was exciting and savored, but on the other side of the coin, each battle lost was very upsetting. The 1998 soccer season was obviously one of growth. It was a tough year for seniors, but they helped lay a foundation for great seasons to come. The forecast for the future is bright; there should be a talented core returning.
