Working as a team unit proved to be the key to success as the girls' volleyball team posted a 12-7 overall mark during '88. Coach Kerry Swigert commented, "The girls used their friendship and teamwork to real advantage and strength. They had such a desire to win."
Seniors Stacey Dunn and Monica Merrill were co-captains who helped the girls to a successful record. "One of the highlights of volleyball would have to be the support our team received from the school and community. It was great for Monica and me to have a winning season our senior year," stated Stacey.
"The reserve team was not too shabby either, finishing 14-4 overall. They played hard against the varsity all year and this made them a great defensive team," explained Coach Swigert.
New to the volleyball coaching staff was assistant Ed Beadle.
"It was great. The girls made coaching easy. We played two separate teams and everyone made great improvement from the very beginning of the season," noted Beadle.
Post-season awards went to Holly Rhodes (jr.), Co-Most Valuable Player; Kim Shellock (jr.), Co-Most Valuable Player; Stephanie Ferry (jr.), Best Server; Stacey Dunn (sr.), Coach's Award; Heather Fishley (fr.), Most Improved.
