Below is an excerpt from the yearbook:
At seven on an August morning, most students were still sound asleep, savoring their last few weeks of sleeping in. However, a select few were jumping rope, running laps , and doing push- ups. These athletes comprised the girls volleyball team.
Rough practices only one factor of what seemed to pull the Trojans even closer together as a team. Senior leadership played a big part in the team's 16-7 record. "The seniors were wonderful and I will miss all four of them," said Melissa Bolitho.
Under the coaching of Jodi Forshey and Sharon Adams, a new offense moved the girls to a higher level of competition. The 6-2 which involves a middle hitter, enabled the team to "wail" on the ball. "With the new offense, I got more involved in the game and had a greater desire to win," stated Kelly Gehring.
Expectations were high as tournaments began. But, once again, history seemed to repeat itself as the girls finished as district runner-up. Senior Lisa Cercone summed up the season by saying, "Even though the district finals were disappointing, we still had a great season."
Post-season awards went to senior Dani Fishley, 1st Team PAC-7, 1st Team District 5, District 5 Player of the Year, and Honorable All-Ohio; senior Mandy Patterson, First Team District IV, HM PAC-7; senior Lisa Cercone, HM District V; junior Kelly Gehring, Second Team District V; junior Jenn Tegtmeier, Coach's Award; sophomore Michele Gehring, Second Team District V, Most Improved.
