Below is an excerpt from the yearbook:

Even though the sweltering month of August was spent on preparation, the girls played through a season of heartbreaking losses, posting a 7-15 ledger. One aspect most players felt could have contributed to a better season was one they admitted they ignored... teamwork.

"There were too many conflicts that interfered with having a team that jelled together. We did have high points, and I hope next year's team will learn from our mistakes," stated senior Randi Burkhart.

New faces were seen around the court as Sharon Adams took over the varsity coaching job left by Jodi Forshey, and Karen Monaco coached the JV team. New drills and practice strategies were used to improve weaknesses. "Coach Adams helped me a lot with my serving. She was always coming up with new serving games for us to play," commented Stephanie Koehlinger, sophomore.

Tournament time drew near, and the Trojan spikers were to face their PAC-7 foe, Indian Valley.

"We really took the time to prepare mentally for that game because Indian Valley beat us both times during regular season," said junior Missy Levengood.

However, the Trojans were routed on the tournament trail by Indian Valley, losing 15-6, 15-7 in their sectional final game.

Post-season awards went to Kelly Gehring, (sr.), First Team PAC, First Team District 5 MVP; Randi Burkhart, (sr.), Most Points Serving; Mimi Merrill, (soph), Most Improved; Jill Fortune, (soph), Coach's Award.

What value is teamwork in volleyball and how did it affect the season?

Mimi Merill- "Teamwork is very important! Without it teams won't win many games. During the season we lacked this the most. I can remember only a few times when we were communicating positively and believing in each other. Next year we can use the season as an example as to what happens when teamwork isn't valued."

Jill Fortune- "I believe our teamwork was not all it could or should have been, and you can see that by the results of our season. On the nights we did have teamwork it was great, and we could hardly lose. Unfortunately, there were more days when we did not work together."

Nan Sanner- "I think we really didn't have too much teamwork at the beginning of the season. I feel the team had too many arguments. If our team would have gotten along better, the season would have gone better."

Shelly Roden- "Whenever we all work together, we played a lot better than when we were not. It was frustrating at times, but we stuck it out to the end."

Steffani Deubner- "The difference between the games that we played with the teamwork and the games we didn't was unreal. Once we got on a roll, we didn't stop. Unfortunately, it took a lot to get our team pumped up."
