On September 11th Bolivar Library Branch Supervisor Jessica Gard visited Tusky Valley Middle School to show the middle school students how to download eBooks with OverDrive Read on their new Chromebooks. OverDrive Read is a browser-based eBook reader that works on most tablets, computers, and mobile devices.
Gard noted that the purpose of this program was to raise awareness to students and parents about opportunities provided by the library. Tusky Valley is the only school involved in this program so far.
The students we talked to were very excited about the program. One of Mrs. Price’s 5th grade students, Karl Freitag said, “Being able to have the ability to read a book on the Chromebooks is very exciting.” Sixth grade student Elly Rothenstein stated, “My favorite part of what I learned today was how to download my favorite books. It’s so great to have access to a great selection of books to read.”
6th grade Literature teacher Mrs. Owen statedd, “The best part of this program is that it opens a world of information to our kids. It encourages small groups and book clubs.”
Every grade level at TVMS will have a chance to meet with Gard and learn about the benefits of the program and how to access books through Chromebooks. TVMS is in the first year of the 1:1 initiative in which all students in grades 5-8 receive a district provided Chromebook. |
